Steve Jobs once said, “The most powerful person in the world is the storyteller. The storyteller sets the vision, values, and agenda for an entire generation that is to come.” Storytelling is a powerful tool for inspiring action, changing behaviors and building bridges.

As companies struggle with their messaging on supplier diversity and sustainability, storytelling is the most effective way to communicate with various stakeholders and move forward the corporate strategy in meaningful ways.

This session looked at data from the perspective of executive leadership, employees, and the supply chain and provide context and understanding to the communities that are impacted by corporate strategy and messaging.

At the 2022 National Minority Supplier Diversity Council (NMSDC) Conference and Exchange in New Orleans, Florence Amate and her mentor, Kerry R. Watson, Jr., jointly presented on the power of storytelling to communicate socioeconomic impact and specifically how going beyond the data at MGM National Harbor shed light on the company’s efforts in Prince George’s County. This has led to increased understanding and appreciation for the socioeconomic impact that MGM has had on households, businesses, and the community at large.
