Community of the Future projects demonstrate the range of ComEd’s smart grid engineering innovation, deepen its relationships with the communities it serves, and broaden its impact on its service territory. Community of the Future focuses on identifying and mobilizing community strengths and leveraging those strengths to bolster sustainability, resiliency, and connectedness.

Job Summary

We are looking for a Community of the Future Young Professional Assistant (CoF YPA) to work closely with the program’s Metrics and Evaluation Project. ComEd has engaged a Subject Matter Expert Team (Laisar/Greene Team) to assist in the development of metrics and evaluation of the Community of the Future program and projects in Rockford. The CoF YPA will work with the Laisar/Greene Team to coordinate outreach activities with community stakeholders and support the research, development, and application of metrics to the Community of the Future Program.

Qualifications

The CoF YPA should have a background and interest in one of the following (overlapping) areas:

  • Community Development
  • Energy Economics
  • Climate Change Mitigation
  • Sociology
  • Economic Development
  • Community Outreach
  • Alternative Energy
  • Technology Adoption, or
  • A related field

The ideal Assistant will be someone who lives in Rockford and has some understanding of the local culture and different perspectives among residents and the community at large in Rockford. 

Responsibilities

The assistants will help the Laisar/Greene Team conduct the following activities:

  • Review information about Community of the Future programs
  • Conduct interviews with residents
  • Draft preliminary metrics for measuring progress
  • Gather data on metrics
  • Refine metrics
  • Apply metrics to CoF program
  • Develop guidance materials
  • Communicate with the program stakeholders
  • Draft a report on the results of the research, and
  • Outline how the metrics may be used in other areas such as Rockford

Requirements

Primary skills for this position include community outreach, the ability to work as part of a team, good communication skills, writing, and potentially data analysis although the latter is not essential. 

  • A bachelor’s degree in public relations, social services, or related field.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in community outreach may be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Strong organizational and management skills.
  • Experience with databases, public access sites, and primary research skills.
  • Good reporting, technical, and statistical skills.

Employment Type

The CoF YPA position is expected to last for six months from April 2022 through September 2022, and involve an anticipated 100 hours of labor, or an average of 4 to 8 hours per week throughout the six-month period.
