Job Summary

We are looking for a talented Communications Specialist who is highly organized, detail oriented, and a great communicator with a passion and experience to craft compelling copy that captivates audiences and drives results, and help us create impactful content that resonates with our target market. The successful candidate will work with internal stakeholders and external clients, help manage all internal and external communications, and represent the company to the outside world.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging and persuasive copy for various materials, including annual reports, impact reports, website content, social media posts, print materials, and more.
  • Collaborate with the project teams to develop effective messaging strategies and storytelling.
  • Conduct thorough research to understand target audience, market trends, and competitors.
  • Edit and proofread copy to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Utilize content management systems to publish and update content on company websites and web-based service platforms.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in copywriting and digital marketing, and develop and implement communication strategies and campaigns to effectively reach target audiences.
  • Create engaging content for various communication channels, including social media, websites, and newsletters.
  • Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other communications materials.
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice and style across all communication platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support marketing initiatives and ensure consistent messaging.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies and campaigns to effectively reach target audiences.
  • Manage social media accounts and engage with followers to build brand awareness and promote key messages.
  • Cultivate relationships with media outlets and journalists to secure coverage and manage media inquiries.
  • Monitor and analyze communication efforts to measure effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist with public speaking engagements and represent the organization at events or conferences.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support marketing initiatives and ensure consistent messaging.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency in social media management platforms and tools.
  • Strong media relations experience, including pitching stories and building relationships with journalists.
  • Ability to write compelling content in a variety of styles for different audiences.
  • Knowledge of marketing principles and ability to apply them in communication strategies.
  • Comfortable with public speaking engagements and presenting information to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with journalism practices and ability to work with reporters on news stories.
  • Understanding of public relations principles and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Required Computing Skills

  • Working knowledge and understanding of technical design and portal aspects of SharePoint
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or similar design software.

  • Knowledge of computer software, such as Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.


Employment Type

This is a Full-Time position based in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Salary Range

$45,000 – $50,000 per year
